All candidates for the BPhil graduation must meet the general final requirements (implicit requirements) and the special graduation requirements (independent scholarship).
The students must conclude the final exams of their home school and complete a study program, which shows that the student is not only fulfilled, but also exceeded the requirements for a standard degree of department of the bachelor. This includes maintaining a 3.50 cumulative GPA.

During this phase, the Discon Advisor should work closely with the student to develop a research topic and a plan to investigate. Since the dissertation in many cases will be the first considerable piece of independent scholarship, which has produced the student, the Discon Advisor may have to provide students of general support for research methods and strategies. In particular, the adviser should help the student to framework a question of appropriate scope.
